Everyone I speak to at the minute is deep in the trenches of 2026 planning. I've started doing some strategy consulting with one of my long-term freelance clients, and been trying to shift their focus towards revenue-focused content planning.

Every topic or content theme we're discussing for next year needs to have a clear job in the revenue journey. This is helping them shift away from being reactive to the whims and requests of leadership (and other teams), or chasing the latest hot topics.

We're starting with the question, “How would this help someone make a buying decision?” rather than “Would this get clicks?” or even "Would this rank well in search?". Already it's feeling like their content is more closely aligned with the work that sales and product are doing, like they're partners rather than siloed teams.
